Burnout In Elite Performers
Athletes: Burnout is, in our philosophy, an over-saturation of fatigue. Although extensive systems exist
to address physical fatigue, the impact of emotional and cognitive fatigue are rarely treated with the
same urgency. Creating strategies that alleviate the emotional highs and lows in a season is how we help
athletes manage burnout and prolong their ability to perform at their best.
Artists:
“True art lies in a reality that is felt.” - Odilon Redon
What this quote forgets is that the feelings art provokes in its audience are often felt more strongly by
the performers themselves. Through countless rehearsals and performances, they bear the weight of
that expression. Our work supports dancers with the psychological strain that accompanies their art,
ensuring that they won’t feel the effects of burnout because of the stress of their performances.
Specialized Performers: Performers in specialized occupations have to manage the same accumulation
of mental and physical fatigue that occurs in any setting that demands performance excellence, while
also managing the emotional and cognitive weight of being accountable for the safety and well-being of
others. We encourage our clients to foster an awareness of how their work affects their bodies and
minds on a daily basis, and help them develop strategies to address that impact in their personal and
professional lives.
